I had Holey Grail donuts in LA and when I was vacationing in Kauai, I just had to go to their original location and see where it all began. Their Hanalei-Kauai shop is operating out of a cute red food truck and the staff was very friendly. I went there to just get chai or matcha latte but they got me...to purchase a couple of donuts. They always make the donuts to order. The donuts are served fresh, warm, and crispy as they fry (in 100% organic and sustainably-sourced coconut oil) and dip the donuts as the order comes in. So far, I've visited their locations in Santa Monica, Larchmont, and in Hanalei, Kauai. I do have gluten allergy/intolerance (Not Celiac). I never got sick when I eat the donuts. Do alert and check with them if you have a more severe allergy. Their donut base is made out of taro, it is vegan, free from dairy, soy, and egg. It's a plus since I also have dairy allergy. They recently create and start selling gluten free donut hole. The GF donut hole is crispy and they currently have 2 options for the GF donut in term of flavors: 1. Original Sin-Hawaiian vanilla bean, salted maple, glazed 2. Rolled - in their flavor of the day They might not have the GF at all of their locations-currently have it in the Long Beach location. This place is just simply awesome. The people who work here are so kind. We stopped by twice on our most recent trip to Kauai. We didn't stay in the North Shore, but did venture up twice, both times we got more donuts from here. Everything here is dairy-free, which is perfect for my husband who is slightly lactose intolerant. They have amazing coffee as well. When I ordered a plain iced draft coffee black, I was pleasantly surprised to get this delicious cup of nitro cold brew!!! It paired so well with the taro based donuts. The second trip here we got the cacao latte was AMAZING. It's not too sweet without any adjustments which we normally need to ask for. I would say it was a bit chocolatey and with a hit of light sweetness. I was so jealous I didnt get this lol I got the nitro cold brew again. At first we just got one donut to share, but after devouring it quickly, we got up to get 3 more LOL. They even surprised us with an extra hot one. I am already back state-side and dreaming about the next time we can come back for more.
On one hand $4.50 for a small donut is pretty expensive! On the other hand, these donuts are made fresh and were delicious. We stopped by on Father's day and got the 4 donut sampler. Note - they make it look like a deal at $18 for 4, but that is really the same price as buying them individually. All of them were very good, and they even gave a free Old Spice donut for Father's. That was very nice of them! Service is friendly and the time to make them is as expected, since they are made fresh! Warm and and tasty donuts. While this is not a multiple stop place, it's worth stopping by at least 1 time when in Kauai to try them out. Also, note that that are multiple locations, so regardless of where you are staying, you can probably find one nearby.
I arrived in the morning and there was ample parking. The shop is at the back of the lot so be aware. I was greeted pleasantly with a smile by staff who explained the different flavors. I opted to order 4 but wish I noticed that there was a sampler for cheaper. Out of the 4 I preferred the maple and coconut donuts. The order was warm and delicious. Ingredients tasted of quality. There are a few tables and benches to eat at if you choose. I ordered an iced latte which was not to bitter but be aware that they do not offer any flavored coffee. It's a nice experience when visiting Kauai and I am happy I tried it.
Gourmet donuts, made with taro in their dough. Lovely flavors, best eaten fresh! We got some coffee and their box of 4 donuts for the two of us... and one to go Absolutely enjoyed the quiet morning, no rush here on a Wednesday morning. The other food trucks open around lunch time. The views were fantastic! With some chickens around for company. The donuts are smaller than your regular size, delicious nevertheless!
This is no ordinary doughnut. These are made with taro and they are served HOT! Service is on the slow side because your sweet treats are made to order so be patient. Your mouth will thank you. This local business will appreciate a tip too. There are several options to pick from. The Yelp secret menu QR code on the widow doesn't work but there are plenty of menu offerings to pick from. The food truck is towards the back so save room for these treats. I recommend eating them while they are hot but don't burn yourself. There's seating close by for you to indulge immediately.
I was super pumped to snag a donut from this vegan food truck as I'd heard a lot about it, and who doesn't love donuts?? I swung by mid morning on a Tuesday and didn't have to wait in line. Nice. The man who took my order recommended the Hail Mary (cardamom + rose) flavor so that's what I got! They fry the donuts to order, so the taro dough is nice and hot. Yes. I promptly took my sweet treat to the beach and enjoyed my tasty treat with a view. The flavor was yummy and I enjoyed the texture, which is different but still delish. The price is pretty on par with how expensive island eats tend to be ($5 ish for one donut). Service was good and the packaging is cute + compostable. I'd happily come back during a future visit and try out another fun flavor!
FML. These donuts are fire. They're just as good if not better than any trendy donut spot you can think of, and for multiple reasons. 1) Ingredients are indictive of Hawaii. Lilikoi being the main one we all wanted to try. 2) Freshly made to order. Like Krispy Kreme, but on a small scale, and way better tasting. 3) Presentation. I love they way they give the donuts on a "designer" paper. Or a nice box. IT IS a little pricey, however this really isn't a donut spot you buy a dozen to share with co workers... This is a trendy craft donut spot that you add to your stops while in Hanalei!
These donuts were a revelation! Each bite was a burst of unique flavor. I loved the tropical twist of the ube with lilikoi glaze, and the black sesame miso offered a surprising savory option. The taro donut itself was a delightful surprise - dense but with a pleasant chew, offering a cakey texture that complemented the creative flavors perfectly. The packaging was a delightful surprise too! It perfectly complemented the shop's name with a clever Holy Grail theme, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. If you're looking for donuts unlike any you've had before, this is the place! Highly recommend!
Loved this spot! Great for a light breakfast and beverage. It's a cute little truck with outside covered seating available. There is parking right in front. Service was friendly and prices are reasonable. The donuts are delicious and come packed in a cute little box. We had the yuzu, acai, and hot single. The hot single was my favorite! Flavors rotate. We also had the holy chai and it was so good! Probably one of the best chais I've ever had!
